Cranleigh U9 Thunder reached the half way point of their season on Saturday, marking it with their 5th win in a row to take them joint top of the league with Stoke D'Abernon, who have also won all 5 of their games. After skipper Will O'Brien won the toss and decided to bat on a grass pitch and outfield heavy with dew, Cranleigh racked up 157-3 (a net score of 345) with good contributions throughout. Eddie Hoy top scored with 29 including some powerful pull shots, and their were good contributions too from Will O'Flinn (net 23) and Oscar Pilling (17) and some sumptuous drives from Freddie Swayne and Will Hamblin. With ball in hand, Blackheath were restricted to 60-10 (net 220) with Will O'Brien returning impressive figures of 2-0-7-3. Eddie Hoy and William Martin each picked up two wickets, the former claiming a magnificent diving catch off his own bowling and the latter bowling a magic leg break reminiscent of Warne's "Gatting ball" which completely bamboozled the batter. Arlo Knight also bowled a miserly spell - capping off an excellent all round team display.
