Cranleigh U9 Lightning chalked up their 4th successive victory on Sunday to move up to 3rd place in the league following an impressive victory over Blackheath. On a glorious morning at Duke of Kent school, skipper Nathan Simpson won the toss and decided to bowl first and managed to limit the opposition to 101-10 (net 261) with a disciplined bowling performance - conceding only 14 wides and 5 no balls. The new ball pair of Stanley Brading (2-0-10-2) and William Martin (3-0-8-2) set the tone with accurate, straight bowling up front and each picking up two wickets. Toby Barriball, Saul Benn, Barty Little and Nathan Simpson also picked up wickets, while the bowlers were backed up by some excellent fielding - especially Theo Enticott who effected a great run out.
With bat in hand, Cranleigh managed to score 134-6 (net 310) to win by 49 runs. The star with the bat was Nathan Simpson who drove and pulled his way to an excellent unbeaten 30 in a great partnership with Noah Johnson. Toby Barriball also hit an unbeaten 20 in another productive partnership with Theo Enticott; in fact all 4 pairs batted well together with some good backing up and running between the wickets. The boys can be very proud of their performance - long may the victories keep coming!
