Following their close 3 run defeat on Sunday, it was a quick turnaround for Team Lightning just three days later. After winning the toss, Saul Benn decided to bat first and Lightning batted well, racking up a net score of 306 in their 20 overs, with Oscar Pilling (27 including a 6), William Martin (15 including a lovely drive through mid-on) and Eddie Hoy (14) leading the way. All the boys played the pull shot to good effect and ran well between the wickets – if at times a little over risky! One highlight of the innings was having to changes pitches after 6 overs as the stoolball team arrived to play on our pitch! In reply the boys bowled tightly and managed to restrict Merrow to 279 despite dropping a couple of catches. Eddie Hoy impressed with the ball again (3-0-6-2), so too Noah Snook, Jack Montfort, Nathan Simpson and Alfie Brewer who all bowled economically and well “at the death”. So a first – and deserved – victory for Team Lightning, hopefully this will kickstart a winning run.
