CCC welcomes Ajaz and Charles

Established in 1856, Cranleigh Cricket Club enjoys a unique heritage and its special place within the village of Cranleigh, whilst attracting international stars from across the world!

In 2019 cricket will be a hot topic and not just for its glorious weather, if 2018 is anything to go by! Both the Ashes and the Cricket World Cup will be played here in England and Wales for the first time in 20 years.

In celebration of this unique year, Charles Coventry, ex Zimbabwean Test cricketer will join the Club as 2019 Head Coach, overseeing the delivery of our community outreach programme within local Cranleigh schools, and also the dynamic Juniors coaching sessions which attracts children from the area every Friday night through the summer at the Club.

Charles - aka Choppa - is a right-handed batsman and occasional wicket-keeper. He previously shared the record, with Saeed Anwar, of the highest individual score in a One Day International, 194 not out. This was surpassed by Sachin Tendulkar's 200 on 24 February 2010.

Of his forthcoming summer at Cranleigh Cricket Club as Head Coach Charles said "I am really excited to be involved with the youth cricket program. There is a massive drive for cricket in the community and I will do my best to take cricket forward at both schools and club. What a wonderful club full of friendly people. I’m really looking forward to the season!".

Also, in 2019 New Zealand Test cricketer Ajaz Patel will join the Club as our Overseas Player. Ajaz made his international debut for the New Zealand cricket team in October 2018. The following month, he made his Test debut for New Zealand, taking five wickets in the second innings with New Zealand winning by four runs, and was named the man of the match. “It is a real privilege to be rejoining the Cranes, I had a great time when I was here last in 2010, so really looking forward to getting stuck in with the fellas again and hoping for a good summer” said Ajaz.

Please join us in welcoming Ajaz and Charles to our Club - pop down and meet them soon!
