In the opening game of the season, the Lightning lost to a strong Chiddingfold side by 40 runs. After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, the boys did well to restrict Chiddingfold to 286 following a stand of 40+ by their opening pair. All the boys did well, in particular Rupert Butler who returned figures of 3-0-11-2, William Martin (3-1-9-1) and Noah Snook (3-1-8-0). In reply, Cranleigh could only manage 246 with the boys struggling to hit the ball very far on what was a very slow outfield – apart from a couple of lusty blow from Harry Hastie, boundaries were very difficult to come by! So the boys should take great confidence from this first outing with plenty of positives to take to the next game.
