The U11s made the long journey to Fleet on Wednesday night, and despite only having 7 players were able to pull off a great 37 runs victory.
After skipper Will O'Brien lost the toss, Cranleigh were asked to bowl first and started well. Tight bowling from speedster Eddie (2-0-3-0) and the metronomical Will Mullan (3-1-9-1) kept Fleet very quiet in the opening overs. They were followed up by Will O'Brien (2-0-7-2) and Benedict (3-0-17-1) - both of whom picked up key wickets, constantly putting the Fleet batters under pressure. However in the second half of the innings Fleet counter attacked well, and despite some good bowling from Stan (2-0-14-1), Toby (2-0-10-0) and Noah (2-0-29-0) and a brilliant run out by Will Mullan, Fleet managed to reach a net score of 270.
The chase got off to a great start with Eddie smashing boundaries galore in his unbeaten 33. Next pair Toby (4) and Noah (12) consolidated our position well, but wickets started to fall including 3 run outs and the result was in the balance with a score of 253 after 8 overs. Benedict (5) and Stan (2) navigated their overs safely enough though to leave Will O'Brien (15*) under less pressure than he otherwise might have been in the final 4 overs, starting at 268 and finishing at an excellent 307.
All the boys did well - the ground fielding was good, fielders were "walking in" and the wide count a lot less than the first game. The batting explosive at times with some great shots down the ground - all really encouraging signs (although we need to remember to run our bats in!).
