The U11s travelled to Normandy for the first round of the County Cup on Sunday and won the toss and batted first in what looked like very bowled friendly conditions. Cranleigh lost Eddie in the first over, and struggled to score runs on a pitch that was not easy to bat on. Will OF and Oli took the score to 20 before the former was bowled, and Oli built another good partnership with Jacob to get the score to 48 before he got caught with just 5 overs to go. It was then that Isaac came in and changed the pace and momentum of the innings, smashing a quick 12 off just 7 balls including a 4 and a 6. From then on Cranleigh kept the scoreboard ticking over nicely with good contributions from all the batters, finally posting a total of 90 off their 15 overs. If it were not for Jacob not batting through to the end of the innings with an excellent unbeaten 18 it could have been a very different story!
In reply, Cranleigh's opening pace attack of Henry and Noah bowled magnificently, reducing Normandy to 0-2. They really set the tone for the whole innings and were backed up well by all the other bowlers. Wickets fell at regular intervals, catches were held and there was a great energy in the field. Freddie was excellent behind the stumps with no byes conceded, and there really was no let up for the Normandy batters, who eventually finished on 57-7.
So a great performance and a great win - next, Horsley and Send!
